January / February

Chinese Lunar New Year - Late January to February


Chinese New Year is celebrated beyond Bangkok's Chinatown. Prepare to be dazzled by parades in neighbourhoods with strong Chinese-Thai communities. Lion dances thunder through the streets, bringing good luck with every cymbal clash, and the aroma of incredible street food fills the air.

 

February

Chiang Mai Flower Festival - First Weekend of February

Chiang Mai, known for its stunning natural beauty, explodes in a riot of colours during the Chiang Mai Flower Festival. Elaborately decorated floats parade through the streets, showcasing the city's incredible floral artistry.

April

Songkran Thai New Year Water Festival - Mid April

Songkran, also known as the Water Festival, is Thailand's biggest and wildest celebration. The streets transform into a giant water fight for three days, with people armed with water guns and buckets. It's a fantastic way to cool off during the hot season and experience the joyous Thai spirit.


Por Tor (Hungry Ghost Festival) Phuket - July to August

Phuket's Por Tor Festival is a chance to delve into the island's Chinese heritage. Locals honor ancestors with vibrant offerings and delicious traditional food. Most of the ceremonies can be found in and around the islands Chinese shrines.

 

October

Phuket Vegetarian Festival - October

Primarily observed in Phuket, this festival features a strict vegetarian diet and various rituals, including body piercings and fire walking.

 

November

Loy Krathong and Yi Peng (Festival of Lights) - November

Celebrated on the full moon of the 12th Thai lunar month, is a beautiful festival where people float decorated baskets with candles and offerings on rivers and lakes. The festival coincides with Yi Peng, which features the release of thousands of sky lanterns, creating a magical spectacle in the night sky.
